DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS

The diesel particulate filters control particulate emissions by removing the matter issued by the smoke from the engine. When the gases carrying particles pass through the substrate walls of the filter, the matter is trapped and collected in the filter media. After reaching a critical load of soot regeneration begins, and the soot is burned with the help of an additive-based fuel, or with the catalytic coating on the filter itself.

Filters are completely cleaned or replaced in service centers where the specialized elements from the engine, fill the filter, which occurs between 150 and 225 thousand kilometers. The EU pressure to reduce the emission limits and incentives for tax relief in their assembly, means that it is more a port for the aftermarket business in the coming years.
